Miguel Cabrera Injury
March 28, 2012 by staff
Miguel Cabrera Injury, Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was back on the field today and eager to get a bat in his hands after one week of prescribed rest. A nondisplaced fracture of his right orbital bone had him on the shelf, but he resumed activity this morning, under direction of club staff members.
“I feel good and look forward to some batting now,” Cabrera said before returning to the weight room. “In two or three days, hopefully, (manager Jim Leyland) will put me in the lineup. Then I will follow through on my work and be good for Opening Day.”
Detroit opens the regular season April 5, against the Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park.
Leyland said he doesn’t know when Cabrera will play but said he does plan to use him on Opening Day, most likely at third base and not as a designated hitter.
About Cabrera’s return, he said, “That’s not good news. That’s great news.”
