Midnight In Paris Movie, The Owen Wilson’s latest film, Woody Allen midnight in Paris, just had its premiere at Cannes and won warm critical reviews on the Croisette (the film opens in U.S. theaters May 20). In the film, 42, Allen, Wilson plays a writer on holiday in the City of Light with his girlfriend (Rachel McAdams), who is magically transported back in time at the age of Jazz City 1920. Recently he found the star to discuss his collaboration with Allen unlikely, how shocked he was to see the scourge of director of an iPhone in the set, and why a-listers seem to stop what they’re doing to work with the Legendary New Yorker.
OWEN WILSON: It is someone who is so familiar. Someone who has grown up watching. So it’s almost surreal that were with him. It feels a bit like the Purple Rose of Cairo. He came out of the screen and there it is! It sounds like you do! I remember working with Bruce Willis in Armageddon and we’re doing a scene and I remember seeing a kind of expression and thought “Wow, I know that the expression on his face!” With Woody, who hear him speak and think ‘I’ve heard that before.
Allen says he does not see many new movies, but one of their own that had seen and what led him to launch at midnight, was Wedding Crashers. The strange thing is that Woody Allen imagine walking to a multiplex box office and saying, “One Wedding Crashers, please!”
I have never heard this! Do you think it would have been a Wes Anderson film, I had seen, but it is a populist? You know, he never spoke until he received this letter from him, which of course I have yet – this great letter, well written, saying “This is what I’m thinking, we will be filming in Paris, check out the script and see what you think. ‘So I said I wanted to participate, but never spoke and never met until I got to France before the shooting. And when we met, we shook hands, asked him how was my flight and told me good, and I said, well, this is the last time you hear from me. And for a couple of weeks I felt like, gosh, do not talk much. But then you kind of know him better. He is so polite and courteous in the way he leads.
