Michigan Militia

November 16, 2009 by USA Post

Norm Olson founded the Michigan Militia in 1994 in response to then-President William Clinton’s perceived tightening on gun control laws. Today, the Michigan Militia is still thriving, perhaps even more so than in its past due to the current economic struggles.  This past weekend, a function was help at Franks Stansa’s farm near Flint, MI in order to popularize their message and group.  The function came with a barbeque, carnival-like events, and a rifle firing range, and admitted children for free.  The conversation revolved around the tough state of affairs in America, with nearly all attendees railing against the government and the direction it is headed in.

Olson was a former Air Force who founded the Michigan Militia in the aftermath of the Ruby Ridge, Idaho and Waco, Texas standoffs between the federal government and individuals who had very opposing viewpoints than the government.  The trend in increased militia activities stopped in the early 2000′s, when a more conservative and gun-right friendly Bush administration took office.

However, since the Obama administration has taken office there have been about 100 new militias that have formed under the pretense of gun rights and protection of American ideals.  One such newly formed militia is Olson’s attempt to create an Alaska Militia.  He held an organizational meeting on Thursday the 12th in Nikiski, AK where he pressed upon the attendees the idea that a militia musted be formed and readied for action imediately.
