Michelle Williams Owns The WNBA Team Chicago Sky, The Chicago Sky, the newest team in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), announced recently that musical artist Michelle Williams is part of its group of minority owners.

Williams, of Destiny’s Child, was in Chicago February 27-28 to participate in special events for the Chicago Sky.

“I’m thrilled to have a stake in the WNBA as it expands into my hometown with the Chicago Sky,” said Williams, who visited the Dr. Martin Luther King Boys and Girls Club on Monday.

“It’s great to be part of an organization such as the WNBA that is not only exciting and fun, but fosters a strong sense of empowerment in girls and women. I’m looking forward to being in the front row at Chicago Sky games and cheering them on to many championship seasons.”

The team is owned and operated by Chicago businessman Michael Alter, with a select group of local investors serving as minority owners. The Chicago Sky is the second WNBA team owned and run by an entity outside of the NBA.
