Michelle Obama’s Trip, U.S. first lady Michelle Obama came to South Africa on Monday in her second official solo trip abroad with the goal of advancing U.S. policies on education, health, and democracy.
The first lady arrived at a military airport in Pretoria South Africa capital, shortly before 1930 GMT. It was hosted by U.S. Ambassador Donald cast and your family. She will make stops in Johannesburg and Cape Town and later in the week visit Botswana. Your journey will be rich in images, as the wife of the first black president in U.S. and a descendant of African slaves. In South Africa will meet with Graca Machel, the wife of former South African President Nelson Mandela. Also visit the island where Mandela was imprisoned during apartheid and Soweto – South Africa’s largest black neighborhood and the site of bitter battles with apartheid police in the 1970′s and 80′s.
Mrs. Obama’s visit to South Africa could boost the image of President Jacob Zuma and her government, independent politicalanlyst Nic Boraine said.
“I think any president who comes to their hosts enjoy the glory. So a president of South Africa fairly new, the site of the last great struggle for black people against colonialism and apartheid, hosted the first First Lady in black, will take on a symbolic quality to be very blind, “said Boraine. In Botswana will meet with President Ian Khama and women leaders. You’ll also see a nature reserve.
