Michelle Obama And Jim Sensenbrenner, U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) apologized Thursday to Michelle Obama for saying she has a “large posterior” earlier this week, reports POLITICO. The Wisconsin Republican was overheard having a conversation with someone regarding the first lady’s “Lets Move!” campaign, a nationwide initiative headed by Mrs. Obama aimed at combating childhood obesity. According to the “Lets Move!” website, childhood obesity rates have tripled over the last 30 years.
In 2010, President Barack Obama signed a presidential memorandum to establish the first Task Force on Childhood Obesity, headed by Mrs. Obama.
Mr. Sensenbrenner’s comments were first reported by Fishbowl DC. He was reportedly overheard slamming the first lady’s campaign while on a phone call at Reagan National Airport.
“She lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself,” Mr. Sensenbrenner was overheard saying.
The congressman has not denied making the comments since the incident went public.
The Wisconsin congressman’s spokeswoman confirmed his comments, and stated that he would issue an apology Thursday.
“Mr. Sensenbrenner was referring to the First Lady’s healthy food initiative. He doesn’t think the government should be telling Americans what to eat,” Amanda Infield, spokeswoman for Mr. Sensenbrenner said in a statement Wednesday.
“While he may not agree with all of her initiatives, he plans to contact the First Lady’s office to apologize for his comments,” Ms. Infield added. Mrs. Obama has not publicly commented on the incident.
