Michelle Hickman Texas, A Texas mom is upset after she says she was harassed and embarrassed at a Target store, while nursing her baby. Protests early on Wednesday at Target stores all over the country were in support of Michelle Hickman, the mom who is accusing Target employees of harassing her while she was nursing her baby.
“It was a breast feeding issue, they had a problem with me nursing in public,” Hickman said.
Hickman sat on the floor in the women’s clothing section to nurse her baby. She put a big blanket over herself, she said.
When she was offered a dressing room, Hickman refused. That’s when she says the harassment and humiliation started.
“They all came and started walking by and shaking their head, rolling their eyes like I’m doing something so horrible like feeding my baby here,” Hickman said.
She asked about the breast feeding policy. The policy clearly says people who choose to breast feed in public areas are free to do so.
Hickman says the exact opposite happened to her and that’s why she wants to share her story.
“There’s people walking around showing far more cleavage than I would be showing,” Hickman said.
Target officials say they’ll be in touch with all of their employees to make sure they all know about the company’s policy on nursing in public areas. They’ve also apologized to Hickman.
The nationwide “nurse-in” was scheduled for today at 10 a.m. at Target stores all across the country.
