Memphis Junior Academy, Memphis police say the administration has been found dead in a private school in an apparent homicide. Police say the body of a woman aged 48, was discovered by a teacher, shortly after 11 am Wednesday in Memphis Junior Academy, a private school in East Memphis operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph, said a 17-year-old was arrested at school. One reason and cause of death were not released immediately or the name of the victim. Classes at the school began on Monday.
The police arrived at the school, and Memphis Mayor AC Wharton. “This is an isolated incident,” he said, according to WREG.
On its website, the Memphis Junior Academy is described as “a Seventh-day Adventist school located in Memphis, TN. Our staff is committed to providing quality education in a Christ-filled environment. Our school is part of the seventh to Worldwide Adventist school network. The Seventh-day Adventist system education includes primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities in countries around the world. MJA provides education to students in Pre-K4 through grade 11. ”
Classes at one level, the red brick school, began Monday. A sign out front said Wednesday that “Welcome Back.”
The school was surrounded by yellow crime scene tape after the body was found. The police officers milled about.
Linda Taylor told The Commercial Appeal that he received a call from her husband, who said the school called and told them to pick up her 14-year-old son of Josiah, because there was an emergency. The school does not mean that someone had been killed. “I wonder what is happening,” he said at the scene.
