Marzieh Vafamehr Photos, Marzieh Vafamehr Iranian actress has been sentenced to one year in prison and 90 lashes for acting in a movie about the limits imposed on artists in the Islamic Republic of Iran, said an Iranian opposition website Kalameh.com.
Ironically, the decision makes Vafamehr parallel life of the character in the movie. Her detention has angered opposition groups and activists, who believe that censorship and intolerance in Iran has reached a dangerous level, according to the International Business Times.
Vafamehr was arrested for appearing in “My Tehran for the sale,” a film about a young actress in Tehran that is prohibited from performing in the theater by the authorities. Then leads a secret life to express themselves artistically. The film was heavily criticized in conservative circles in Iran, according to AFP.
The film, which was not adopted for the selection of Iran, are being distributed illegally.
The Islamic Republic monitors and controls most media in the country. In 2007, the Nobel Peace Prize Shirin Ebadi, warned that the censorship in Iran was on the increase, saying the government does not want in the internal affairs of countries that are “reflected in the outside world.”
