Maruti Suzuki Alto

Maruti Suzuki has reached the milestone of one lakh in domestic sales for the fifth time, driven by strong demand for its fuel-efficient compact cars such as Alto and Wagon R. Mahindra & Mahindra posted an 18% growth of its domestic sales against the period last year. The company also recorded a 125% increase in sales to 15,854 unit’s twowheeler in November, according to a statement.
“All our brands, including our passenger vehicle segment (which includes our UV and Logan) and 4-wheel pickup truck segment have shown impressive growth. And despite the arrest of six maintenance facilities prescheduled days in November 2010, “said Rajesh Jejurikar, CEO, the automotive division of Mahindra & Mahindra.
Sales should continue to grow on the back of rising incomes, consumer confidence is positive, the availability of easy financing and a slew of new and old models to choose from. “In December, we expect the market to continue its growth trend,” said Arvind Saxena, director of marketing and sales, Hyundai Motor India Ltd.
The margins may come under pressure in coming quarters, as raw material prices should raise. Analysts said the companies will be forced to increase local supplies of critical components to maintain margins. The demand for cars in India has increased by over 30% this year and may double to 3 million vehicles a year by 2015, according to SIAM.
