Michael Stern, artistic director of IRIS and conductor, said Short – known for his “Saturday Night Live” days for his comic characters – would bring that sensibility to the comic performance. The actor has played with other orchestras in addition to numerous roles include acting that stays on the recent serious FX drama “Damages.”
IRIS, which performs Center Germantown Performing Arts, will be six concerts next season. Other guest artists harpist Elizabeth Hainen, soprano Heidi Grant Murphy, violinist Vadim Gluzman, cellist Amit Peled and pianist Andre Watts.
Highlights of the season is the 4th Symphony by Mahler, the orchestra’s first performance of the composer’s works. Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Copland and make multiple appearances. Contemporary works by Hovhaness, Adams and Harbison are also presented.
Martin Short to pay a little more attention to detail. He added “Late Show” (Weeknights, 11:35 p.m. on CBS), perhaps with the best intentions.
