Mariska Hargitay, “Law & Order: SVU.” Mariska Hargitay will still see each week, NBC said the actress who plays Detective Olivia Benson in the popular crime drama will midseason come have a minor role, according to the clicker, but it is gone for good.
The diminished role came after Hargitay, 47, asked for a shorter work schedule of the season 13. Fans of “SVU” feared they would lose even the president of NBC Entertainment, Robert Greenblatt, Olivia Benson told reporters it would still be very present.
“Mariska will be on every episode of Special Victims Unit, ‘” Greenblatt said at the press tour of the Television Critics Association summer. “It is my goal to ensure that it continues beyond this season.”
Character Hargitay is scheduled for an upgrade to the middle of next season, and “Cold Case” star Danny Pino is about to enter the program as her new partner.
Age onscreen partner Hargitay, Christopher Meloni, is still planning to leave his role as Detective Elliot Stabler, but his character is not killed, Greenblatt said. The Clicker observed that leaves open the possibility of future occurrences of Melo in the program.
“I think we should only watch and see,” said Greenblatt Meloni. “Not a big surprise mystery.”
