Teresa Scanlan won a scholarship and a race to 50,000 a year with the crown competition at Planet Hollywood Casino Resort in Las Vegas, giving Nebraska its first victory in the pageant.
She was the youngest Miss America competition since the first contest in 1921, when “Margaret Gorman,”the District of Columbia, won in 15 years.
Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady and 25,000 won as first runner-up, while Miss Hawaii Jale Fuselier and 20,000 won for third place.
Scanlan, a student recently graduated from the city in western Nebraska Gering, plans to study U.S. policy to Patrick Henry College in Virginia, after her reign as Miss America.
She also hopes to study law, become a judge and possibly a politician, according to her biography contest.
Scanlan won after strutting in a black bikini and a white evening gown and played “White Water Ground Sticks” on the piano.
Colin Firth Unveils Hollywood sidewalk stars “King’s Speech” Golden Globe nominee Colin Firth has become a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The British actor has revealed her sanctuary sidewalk Thursday in front of the Pig AND Whistle pub on Hollywood Boulevard. This is the 2429th star on the Avenue of dedicated dreams.
Firth has already received a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for her role as King George VI in “The King’s Speech”, and is also a favorite for a nod Oscar. Oscar nominations will be announced Tuesday, Jan. 25.
The 50-year-old Firth was nominated Best Actor at the Oscars, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards last year for her performance in “A Single Man.”
Firth film credits include “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” “Shakespeare in Love,” “The English Patient” and “Mama Mia!”
Grammar said he remarry next month
NEW YORK – Kelsey Grammar said he plans to remarry next month.
The 55-year-old “Cheers” and “Frazier” star said on “Late Show With David Letterman” CBS ‘Thursday night, he married Kayte Walsh.
He said that “Kayte my girlfriend” and they would marry “in February, we think.”
His wife of nearly 13 years, Camille Grammar, filed for divorce in July. She cited irreconcilable differences.
