Map Quest Directions

Map Quest Directions, AOL MapQuest launched in India, the first outside Europe. Based on OpenStreetMap (OSM), the site allows users to edit map data (right click) and the same is reflected in 24 hours (map tiles are updated every 15 minutes and the guidelines are updated daily).
As of this writing, there was little data available with the exception of some parts of Bangalore and Delhi (navigation data is certainly not worth talking about).
In total, MapQuest has deployed a total of eight sites using OSM data since July. The countries were chosen because of the enthusiasm of the OSM community in each region, in addition to the rich amount of data that is available.
United States, MapQuest has experienced strong growth, particularly in the mobile segment (iPhone has increased 162 per cent over the last six months. It launched on 4 free app MapQuest Mobile on BlackBerry, with over 45,000 downloads beta in the last seven months).
Since the data in India is not yet sufficiently credible, it would be interesting to see how data sources MapQuest crowd. [Google Map Maker has done a phenomenal job]. We hope this is not a “spray and pray” strategy.
