Man Arrested For Shooting MistletoeMan Arrested For Shooting Mistletoe, A Georgia man was arrested after he tried to steal some mistletoe from a shopping mall’s Christmas tree. His method of choice to obtain the mistletoe was by shooting it down with a shotgun.
The Huffington Post reports that William E. Robinson, 66, has been charged with reckless conduct and discharging a firearm on someone else’s property.
Robinson traveled to North DeKalb Mall Sunday night, where a Christmas tree was located outside near the mall’s parking lot. He used a 12 gauge double barrel shotgun to shoot down the mistletoe hanging from the tree.
A witness driving by alerted police, who located a surprised Robinson and surrounded him.
Robinson told CBS Atlanta after he was released from jail:
“Every year I go somewhere to get some mistletoe to decorate the house. I get some for my friends that can’t get mistletoe. The best way to get it is with a shotgun.”
Robinson also added:
“A shotgun shell doesn’t travel but 100 to 150 feet at the most. It’s just little pellets, it is bird shot so you shoot up in the air it goes right back down.”
He also claims that no one else was directly around him when he fired the shots.
After being arrested, Robinson posted bond and was released from jail the next day.
Mistletoe can actually be quite expensive. The going price for store-bought mistletoe is around $100 for a 3 pound bag.
