Macho Man Wrestler, Pro wrestler “Macho Man” Randy Savage, 58, was killed Friday morning in Florida when the jeep he was driving jumped a median and crashed into a tree, Florida Highway Patrol said. His wife, Barbara L. Poffo, 56, who was in the passenger seat, was injured, the patrol said. She is expected to be released from a hospital, said Sgt Highway Patrol. Steve Gaskins first class. Savage’s real name was Ralph Mario Poffo, according to the wrestling federation to which he did. The couple lived in Seminole, Florida, authorities said.
An investigation is underway, but a report from the Highway Patrol said Ralph Poffo “lost control” of his Jeep Wrangler 2009 for “unknown reasons” as it was traveling west on Route 694 of the state of Florida, near 113th Street North Pinellas County.
The report of the Highway Patrol said Poffo “may have suffered a medical event, however, this can not be confirmed until an autopsy is performed.”
His vehicle went over the divider raised concrete median, crossed the eastbound lanes of SR-694, on the sidewalk and collided head on with a tree, “the report said.
Poffo died at Largo Medical Center Largo, Florida, the report of the Highway Patrol said.
As a professional wrestler was known for his phrase “Yeaahhhhh Ooooooh!” and “Can you dig it?”
After he retired from wrestling, he became known for its Slim Jim commercial.
The wrestling federation and the maker of Slim Jim meat sticks expressed sympathy.
“WWE is saddened by the death of one of the greatest superstars of the time, Randy Poffo,” Macho Man “Randy Savage met,” said the wrestling federation in a statement. “Poffo was under contract to WWE from 1985 to 1993 and held both the WWE Championship and Intercontinental. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends. We wish a speedy recovery to his wife, Lynn. Poffo sorely missed by the WWE and its fans. ”
“We are saddened by the loss,” said ConAgra Foods, which makes Slim Jims, in a statement. “Randy was loved by the brand ambassador Slim Jim for many years and will be missed very much.”
