Live Coverage: Apple Announces A New IPad, Apple, which sent out an invite last week saying ‘We have something you really have to see. And touch,” is expected to unveil a new version of its iPad tablet today at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. 10:00 Apple CEO Tim Cook takes the stage. “I want to talk about the Post-PC revolution…Apple is at the forefront of leaving this revolution. The PC is no longer the center of your digital world, but just a device.”
10:01 Cook says “In many way, the iPad is reinventing portable computing.” Apple sold 171 million post-PC devices last year, which accounted for 76 percent of revenues. He says the Apple’s 362 retail stores worldwide are an important outlet for selling its devices, namely the iPad.
10:05 Apple is showing a video touting its new retail store in Grand Central Station in New York.
10:07: Cook says, “Another key piece of our strategy is i0S. Have now sold 315 million iOS devices last year, 62 million just last quarter (including iPhone, iPad and iPod).” Siri is one of the most popular features added to the iPhone. “Siri is your best friend, your intelligent personal assistant who gets things done just by asking. It’s a whole new way of interacting with your phone and our customers tell us they love it. Today we’re bringing Siri to Japan iPhones.” Announced an update to iOS and said it will be available in Japan in a few weeks.
