Lifetime Plans To Remake 'Steel Magnolias'Lifetime Plans To Remake ‘Steel Magnolias’, According to Deadline, a remake of the 1989 Tear Jerker drama set in Louisiana, Steel Magnolias, is in the planning stages, with the release of all African American actors to begin soon.

If you remember, Steel Magnolias starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Darryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts. The Lifetime original movie, set to be directed by Kenny Leon (ABC, A Raisin in the Sun, Fences Broadways and the top of the mountain), is an adaptation of the script for the 1989 film by Sally Robinson, and will be produced by Craig Zadan, Neil Meron and Sony Pictures TV.

Other productions that have been redone with all black cast include the musical The Wiz, based on L. Frank Baum The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Debbie Allen, from the Broadway production of Tennessee Williams’s cat on hot tin roof.

I’m not sure how I feel about this, I’m more of remakes. However, I love the idea entirely black cast, but shame seems to be a faithful adaptation. I have curiosity to know who to vote for the papers. Since I’m sure most of you have seen the original film, and are familiar with the story, who would like to see in the papers?
