Liam Hemsworth And Miley Cyrus, Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence star in “The Hunger Games,” the story of a post-apocalyptic world where every year, 12 boys and 12 girls hold a televised battle for the nation’s entertainment… and only one person can survive.
The cast of ‘The Hunger Games’ — Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth — are taking their film directly to fans at shopping malls nationwide. The tour kicked off on Saturday in Century City, California. (March 5)
Destined for success … Actor Liam Hemsworth with his girlfriend, singer and actress Miley Cyrus, at Los Angeles premiere of Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games”.
HE might have lost the lightning-charged role of Thor to older brother Chris, but Liam Hemsworth’s own career is now on fire thanks to an attention-grabbing performance in the hotly anticipated teen franchise The Hunger Games.
US tracking for the film adaptation of the first in Suzanne Collins’ dystopian trilogy is so strong that it could debut at $US100 million ($94.7 million). In Australia, presales are on a par with the third Twilight film, Breaking Dawn Part I.
Event Cinemas promotional manager Kristie Atkins said the group is “very excited” about how the film is tracking towards opening. She said “tens of thousands” of tickets had been sold. Demand was expected to pick up in the next week, before the March 22 release.
So far, 100 midnight sessions had been scheduled. Ms Atkins said extra screenings were being added in line with demand.
Author Collins has given the film the “thumbs up” via Facebook.
“I feel like the book and the film are individual yet complementary pieces that enhance one another,” said Collins, who like Harry Potter’s J.K. Rowling, has closely involved herself in the film-making process.
In a step up from the romantic interest role Hemsworth played in The Last Song, the drama on which he met girlfriend Miley Cyrus, the 22-year-old has been cast as Gale, brooding best friend and hunting companion to the film’s feisty heroine Katniss (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence).
Although The Hunger Games’ bow-wielding leading lady is a good deal less passive than Twilight’s Bella Swan, the two stories share a romantic love triangle
