Letterman & Break-inLetterman & Break-in, A New York man was arrested Sunday after allegedly breaking into the Ed Sullivan Theater in midtown Manhattan, where David Letterman tapes his program to talk late night, police said.

James Whittemore, 22, of Manhattan, was arrested in the lobby of the theater, located on Broadway, between Calles 53 and 54 at 7 am and charged with burglary and criminal mischief, police said.

He was being held pending a court appearance Sunday.

Theatre, where Letterman tapes at CBS “Late Show.” was closed at that time. Whittemore was arrested after police received a 911 call.

The historic theater was home to “The Ed Sullivan Show,” featuring ways as memorable as the Beatles in 1964.

Letterman has been the victim of a crime more directly, especially when Margaret Mary Ray was arrested and charged several times for trespassing and stalking the television presenter from the end of 1980.

Police said they did not know if Sunday shooting had nothing to do with a particular letter.

Letterman in 2009 was the target of extortion by a former employee who threatened to reveal his relationship with a female staff member. He informed the police and the man was arrested.
