Leif Garrett, LOS ANGELES (AP) – Former teen idol Leif Garrett pleaded no contest Friday to possession of heroin in Los Angeles and enter a drug rehabilitation program.

Garrett, 48, was arrested in February after authorities found him carrying heroin in a subway station in Los Angeles.

He has had a series of drug arrests from the peak of their popularity in 1970.

The case could be dismissed if Garrett complete terms of the treatment program in 18 months.

“I think this is in the best interest of everyone,” said Garrett’s attorney, Andrew Flier. He said he was proud of Garrett to enter the plea and acknowledged the need for additional treatment.

Garrett has been working with the renowned addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky and he is one of those scheduled to appear in the upcoming season of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” said Flier. program ordered by the court in Garrett would not be part of a reality show, “he said.
