Lea Michele, Lea Michele Sarfati (born August 29, 1986), known professionally as Lea Michele, is an actress and singer. Michele began working professionally as a child actress on Broadway in such productions as Les Miserables. She created the role of Wendla in Spring Awakening is currently playing music and Rachel Berry in the Fox television series Glee.
Michele was born in Bronx, New York, the daughter of Edith Sarfati, and a nurse, and Marc Sarfati, owner of a delicatessen. Michele mother is Italian American and Catholic, while her father is a Sephardic Jew in Spanish. Michele grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey, where she attended Tenafly High School. She attended Stagedoor Manor in the Catskills, a training center for the performing arts. She was then admitted to the program at CAP21′s Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, but chose to continue working on stage.
At eight years, Michele went with a friend a call for a musical. Michele has decided on a whim that she wanted to try. She was offered the role and made her Broadway debut in 1995 as a replacement in the role of young Cosette in the original production of Les Miserables in New York. It was followed by her portrayal of the daughter of Tateh, the little girl in 1998 Original Broadway Cast of Ragtime. In 2004, Michele and Shprintze played Chava in the Broadway revival of the musical Fiddler on the Roof.
She played the role of Wendla Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik’s musical version of Spring Awakening, with workshops beginning of Off-Broadway and finally, originating the role in the Broadway production at the age of 20 years. Around the same time that the show was set to go to Broadway, she was offered the role of Eponine in the Broadway revival of Les Miserables. She chose to stay with Spring Awakening, which debuted on Broadway in December 2006. Michele was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for her performance in Spring Awakening in the category Outstanding Actress in a Musical.
On May 18, 2008, Michele left Spring Awakening with co-star Jonathan Groff. She has performed in a reading of Sater and Sheik new musical, Nero, in July 2008 at Vassar College. August 8 to 10, 2008, Michele portrays Eponine in Les Miserables Hollywood Bowl concert.
Michele is the original cast recording of Broadway Ragtime and Spring Awakening, and the 2003 Broadway Cast Recording recovery Fiddler on the Roof.
Michele stars in the Fox television series Glee, where she plays the lead singer in a choir school, Rachel Berry. The pilot began May 19, 2009. She won a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding ensemble performance and the 2009 Satellite Award for Best Actress. It has also been nominated for an Emmy Award, two nominations for a Golden Globe Award and Teen Choice Award for her performance in the role. Her cover of The All-American Rejects “Gives You Hell” reached number one in the Irish charts and top 40 on the Billboard 200 U.S. Michele is also a singer in 14 of 20 songs of joy from the 2010 sale.
Michele has been included in 2010 Time magazine list of 100 most influential people in the world. FHM named # 7 on 2010 Sexiest Women list, which was the highest ranking for a new entry on the list this year. Michele was named Best Dressed People magazine’s list of 2010, “The Newbie” and was voted “most stylish Star 2010″ by E! Online.
In 2010, Michele joined the cast of the animated film Dorothy of Oz, by expressing the role of Dorothy Gale. That same year she also joined the cast of Garry Marshall romantic comedy New Year’s Eve.
Lea Michele to perform at Super Bowl This is from “Glee” to shine “Glee” on Sunday, February 6. Not only the well-hyped special episode of “Glee” the air after the Super Bowl XLV on Sunday, but also E! News reports that Lea Michele will also agree to pre-game.
The belt will be 24 years at a performance of “America the Beautiful”, joining the ranks of Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Faith Hill, Queen Latifah, Marc Anthony, Ray Charles and Vicki Carr as the only star to perform the song at the event.
But of course, Michael is not alone on stage that night. The Black Eyed Peas will be available for execution at halftime, and Christina Aguilera will have on the national anthem.
