Larry Drew

Larry Drew, Larry Donnell Drew (born April 2, 1958 in Kansas City, Kansas) is the current head coach of basketball Atlanta Hawks National Basketball Association. There is also a former American player of basketball, which was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the 1st round (17th overall) of 1980 NBA Draft. A point guard 6’1 “University of Missouri, Drew has played in 10 NBA seasons. He played for the Pistons, Kansas City / Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers and the Lakers in Los Angeles. In 1988-89 Drew has played in the Italian League with Scavolini.

In his NBA career, Drew played in 714 games and scoring a total of 8110 points. His best year as a professional came during the 1982-83 season as a member of the Kings, appearing in 75 games and averaged 20.1 points, 8.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

Before becoming head coach, Drew was an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks. He also served as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards and the New Jersey Nets.

Drew Drew is married to Sharon and they have three sons, Larry II, Landon and Lindsey. His eldest son, Larry Drew II, played varsity basketball for Taft High School in Woodland Hills, Calif., and played basketball at the University of North Carolina until quitting in his junior year.
A few weeks after losing his place as starting point for the first year Kendall Marshall, North Carolina sophomore Larry Drew II decided to take his ball and go home. The news was reported by ‘s Pat Forde, and UNC made official this afternoon with this statement rather verbose Coach Roy Williams:

“This morning I spoke to Larry Drew, father, and he informed me that he was in the interest of Larry II to leave North Carolina now,” said Williams. “Personally, I hate Larry and the team because he was such an important part of our team and he has continued to improve and played well in recent games. It was our defense winner in two of our last four games and has handled the ball very well in our four game winning streaks.
