Lamar Odom Mavericks Part Ways, The Dallas Mavericks and forward Lamar Odom have chosen to part ways, effective immediately. Odom, 32, is averaging a career-low 6.6 points per game on .352 shooting since coming over from theLos Angeles Lakers in a trade for a first-round draft pick and an $8.9 million trade exception. He was originally slated to be traded to New Orleans in a deal for Chris Paul before NBA commissioner David Stern vetoed the deal.
Odom and Mavericks officials worked out the terms of the separation overEaster Sunday. According to a report by ESPN’s Marc Stein, team sources indicated that Odom will be listed as inactive for the rest of the season instead of being released. He could still be traded after the season, although any team that has him on the roster on June 29 will be on the hook for either a $2.4 million buyout or Odom’s $8.2 million salary for 2012-13.
The reigning NBA champion Mavericks (31-26, fourth in Southwest Division) will play their next game on Tuesday night, when they host theKings (19-38, fifth in Pacific Division) at American Airlines Center. Game time is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
