Kwame Brown, Pick-and-hole: In the past, teams have completely changed his game to adequately use the center Shaquille O’Neal. Los Angeles Lakers, Phil Jackson, coach altered the triangle offense won championships with him to get more touches, Mike D’Antoni ran less when he was with the Phoenix Suns, Mike Brown and became a focal point last year with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Boston Celtics, Doc Rivers, head coach has no such plans, however, that really only cares about how you will deal with Shaq’s biggest weakness: defense of the pick-and-roll.
“He’s not going to change our style because we want to run,” Rivers said in an interview with ESPN 980. “We have a saying, we will try to score in the first six seconds and if not try to run the heck out of them. Let’s try to do, getting easy baskets, and then wait for Shaq to get off the floor. My greatest concern is with honesty on the defensive because every time Shaq is in the ground, everyone will run pick-and-roll and no one has succeeded in finding ways to use it and I’m smarter than anyone else. That’s all we’ve been focusing on this summer is trying to figure out what we will do in pick-and-roll when he comes into play. ”
Suppression of defense is what helped the Celtics win it all in 2008 when they formed the Big Three. Now, of course, the Celtics are seen as the Big Three elderly and Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh have joined the Miami Heat. The Heat hopes to repeat the success that the Celtics had in ’08, but will need to defend fair value according to both Doc
“I think people are focusing on the bad,” Rios said HEAT. “I think everybody is talking about shooting. Is there enough vaccine, they will receive sufficient doses, will they be able to play together, it will take the last shot and could cause confusion, but I think the key for them is willingness to defend, because if they defend and take the ball are talented enough offense to get points. The key for them is that shop will be a defensive unit. ”
Another thing that will be vital for the Heat is a solid game at the guard position. They depend on the young Mario Chalmers as the Celtics were with Rajon Rondo. Luckily for Boston Rondo became a star that is certainly as important as any member of the Big Three.
“It’s a stubborn child and that was good for him,” Rivers admitted. “If you play with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen better be stubborn, because each work that are open. Rondo tells the most important word in your vocabulary will not be. Say no, because you have the ball and they listen. The other thing about Rondo is that he is the smartest player I’ve coached. The basketball is exceptional. Now he gets into trouble sometimes, but he’s feeling very well, he has big hands, he can rebound and the thing that impressed me most is that he is doing this without a jumpshot. Think of what has been dominant. It is often said that you cannot beat in the NBA with a point guard not to shoot. We are not winning by a shot the owner and we are winning by their IQ. ”
Rondo will have to remain vocal and fearless, especially when she’s on the court with Shaq, because it will be as involved in the pick-and-rolls most of the time. They have to find a way to make it work because the rest of the Eastern Conference has improved a lot as they look to dethrone the Celtics and close the door to the window of his championship.
Who would have thought: Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan has a less than stellar record when it comes to staff turnover, but no decision to pursue him more than ever drafting Kwame Brown first overall in the 2001 NBA Draft. Brown Jordan Johnson selected on the future All-Star Joe, Pau Gasol, Tony Parker and Gilbert Arenas just to see what has become one of the biggest busts in league history. However, Jordan is risking Brown once again as he has signed a one-year contract to play for his Bobcats coach Larry Brown.
Kwame be willing to work for Jordan is as surprising as wanting to re-sign Michael. The two do not have a good relationship during their time together with the Washington Wizards. Jordan saw great potential in Brown and was hard on him as a result. Brown did not respond to an intense focus on Jordan and all, in fact, many believe that Michael deserves a lot of the blame for the failures of Brown because he was very demanding. It is a different time and the situation now, however, and Kwame has come a long way since 2001 in terms of maturity.
“Kwame can not wait to take the challenge of playing with Michael and play for a coach the likes of Larry Brown,” said Brown’s agent, Mark Bartlestein to ESPN. “I think it says a lot about Kwame wanted to go to Charlotte.
“In recent years have been difficult for him, but I think he’s very excited to go there and try to create a new chapter in his career. He wants this chance to back out and try something.
“Much has been written about the fact that it was the first selection of Michael as an executive and as many criticisms of them when they both worked. When that happens you can do one of two things. You can run from or all you can use it as motivation. What better way to try to turn his career around to go back where it all began? There were a lot of easier places Kwame could have gone, a lot safer. I think this says a lot about his competitive instincts and fire that he wanted to meet this challenge. ”
Up to this point in his career of Kwame start was what has helped the oldest teams. Caron Butler Washington landed him in a sign and trade, the Lakers acquired Pau Gasol with him as the centerpiece of the bid and the Memphiz Grizzlies had enough cap room to make All-Star power forward Zach Randolph for no one After his contract expired. Detroit, which averaged three points and four rebounds over the past two seasons, is the only team not to dramatically improve their output.
The Bobcats do not expect much from Brown. Jordan has already learned the hard way what happens when you do that. There are some minutes available for him and although in reality Brown is an advocate of very good low post. That put him in grace coach Brown and put him in a position where they can perhaps earn a little redemption. He will always be considered a bust, but a successful season with the Bobcats of Jordan would help eliminate a lot of bad memories of the past.
Krstic Punishment Wait: Oklahoma City Thunder center Nenad Krstic, who was on the team representing Serbia in the next World Basketball Championship, is preparing for a possible suspension could keep him out of the event.
Krstic lost his cool during a scuffle seats in a friendly against Greece. He was a major player in the fray and crossed the line by throwing a chair at a team member from Greece. His actions earned him a night in jail and probably killed any chance that the Serbs had to be competitive in the championship.
“It is killing me, but I can not say I’m not a bit nervous,” Krstic admitted to ESPN. “What keeps me calm is that I can no longer do anything about it.”
FIBA is to review the incident and plans to deliver the punishment on Wednesday. Teammate Milos Krstic Teodosic also faces the possibility of being suspended, which greatly concerns Serbia Dusan Ivkovic coach.
“We will not be able to do so through the group stage without them,” said Ivkovic.
Since Krstic went to jail for his involvement in the brawl, he could also face punishment from the NBA, but probably will not come until closer to the beginning of the season.
