Q13fox.com reports that Glendale city officials have stated the requirements.
City Clerk Ardashes Kassakhian said a candidate must be a registered voter in Glendale, residing in the city 90 days before election. The city official said anyone seeking the elected office only need collect 100 endorsement signatures, a requirement that a superstar like Kardashian may have no problem fulfilling.
Glendale city spokesman Tom Lorenz, who said he was aware of Kardashian’s aspiration, explained a point Kardashian may be unaware of: “No. 1, you don’t run for mayor in the city of Glendale. It is not an elected position in the city. The elected positions are five City Council people, a city clerk and treasurer.”
Lorenz explained: “The city does have a sitting mayor, but like many cities, the mayorship rotates based on the majority vote of the council. The mayorship changes in odd years every April, so based on her self-imposed timeline, Kardashian’s best chance may arrive in 2017.”
In answer to the question whether the position of mayor comes with any powers or authority, Lorenz said: “No.”
