Katherine Jenkins, Katherine Jenkins could not attend the official unveiling of the “Dancing with the Stars” season 14 cast Tuesday morning on “Good Morning America”, as she was set to fly to Afghanistan to perform at a concert. However, the Welsh-born opera singer didn’t go to the war-torn country after all.
In a statement released later on Tuesday, Katherine Jenkins revealed why she had to abandon her plans of performing for U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan.
“I would have loved to have been at the announcement but as a supporter of military men and women around the world, it was very important to me that I keep my word and be in Afghanistan to entertain the troops,” she said in a statement.
“However, due to technical problems with the plane, I was unable to make it there this time … but this will not stop me from going again in the future! Via the Internet, I have learnt about the other contestants and my dance partner and I am thrilled. I cannot wait to take part in a program I have long admired,” the singer added.
Katherine Jenkins will appear on the “Dancing with the Stars” season 14 and will show her dancing skills with partner, two-time champion Mark Ballas on the popular dance completion.
Katherine Jenkins has always showed her support for the US armed forces and performed a concert for war returnees in November. The singer had previously agreed to perform for troops in the Middle East in 2010, but the concert was cancelled at the last minute when her flight was grounded due to heavy snow.
