Kate Middleton Makes First Public Speech, Kate Middleton has officially delivered her first public address. Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, spoke at the opening of The Treehouse, a hospice in Ipswich, England. The hospice is run by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices. According to CSMonitor.com, the organization provides therapy for the children, support for the parents and family members and other services.

Wearing a vibrant blue dress, she spoke about how inspirational the hospice was, “What you have all achieved here is extraordinary.”

“You as a community have built the Treehouse,” she said. “A group of people who have made every effort to support and help each other.”

“For many this is a home from home, a lifeline enabling families to live as normally as possible during a very precious period of time,” she added.

At one point, she expressed regret that her husband wasn’t in attendance. ”I am only sorry that William can’t be here today, he would love it here,” the 30-year-old said.

According to ABC, during her visit, Middleton, who is the royal patron of the Hospices, toured the center’s facilities, met with children, and planted a tree in the grounds.

Middleton’s husband, William is currently away on a six-week Royal Air Force deployment in the Falkland Islands, which left Middleton with a ton of time to make firsts.
