The organization, affiliated with the University of Sydney, said the prize was awarded for 39 years Assange of ‘exceptional value in the exercise of human rights. ”

Currently fighting extradition from Britain to Spain for alleged sex crimes, the Australian hacker was praised for “defying centuries old practices of secret government and to defend people’s right to be informed.”
“We believe that the struggle for peace with justice inevitably involves conflicts inevitably involves controversy,” said Foundation director Professor Stuart Rees.
“We think you and WikiLeaks have given rise to what we believe is a milestone in journalism and freedom of information and, potentially, in politics.”

Wikileaks caused a diplomatic scandal and the media last year when it began publishing its cache of more than 250,000 U.S. cable diplomatic disclosures of secrets, and that Saudi leaders had urged the U.S. military action against Iran.
Some U.S. politicians, WikiLeaks said to be defined as an international terrorist organization.
Assange said the same publication of the cables so helped uprisings in northern Africa and the Middle East and said WikiLeaks was on the side of justice.
