Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, more recently known for her role in The New Adventures of Old Christine, has a new adventure ahead of her. The actress has signed to play a female vice president in a new HBO comedy.
In Veep, who will play a former senator Selina Meyer, who becomes vice-president and discovers the work is not like she thought it was. The show’s creator explained that the character is not inspired by any political figure.
“I just wanted to say that this person is not an existing person in high office,” said Armando Iannucci. “It is a satire on Biden. It is a satire of Cheney.”
Louis-Dreyfus is best known for her role as Elaine on Seinfeld. Her new sitcom will begin production in the fall and is expected to air in 2012.
“It’s a real pleasure to work with HBO and Armando Iannucci,” said Louis-Dreyfus said in a statement. “I take the role of vice president very seriously, and though everyone says this is a comedy, I think there’s no fun at all for me to be one step from the presidency.”
