Joe Paterno Funeral Arrangements, Penn State has announced funeral arrangements for former football coach Joe Paterno. The Hall of Fame coach died Sunday after a fight with lung cancer. There will be public viewings held on campus Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday morning.

A private family funeral will take place Wednesday and a memorial service is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at Bryce Jordan Center, the basketball arena on the school’s campus.

Flags at all Pennsylvania state facilities will be lowered to half-staff in honor of Paterno.

Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett made the order which will remain in effect until Paterno is laid to rest.

Paterno’s death has evoked an outpouring of grief among Penn State students and fans and reaction from figures inside and out of the college football world.

Paterno is college football’s winningest coach at the Division I level with 409 victories in 46 seasons with the Nittany Lions. He was fired in November after former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was charged with sexual abuse of multiple children and the ensuing scandal that engulfed the university.
