Now Oscar-winning actor plans to use his star power to help raise funds for the head of McGill University and neck cancer fund.
Douglas, 66, has been in the U.S. last year by a tumor the size of a walnut in my throat. He is now cancer free.
The initial diagnosis was McGill affiliated Jewish General Hospital, his publicist, Allen Burry said Monday. Burry said Douglas, who won an Oscar in 1987 for Wall Street, was “happy to do” fundraising.
Douglas and his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, who owns a vacation, home in northern Montreal Mont-Tremblant.
The May 03 event at Le Windsor in Montreal Douglas will mingle with guests at a dinner of 375 and a head. And 750 with a ticket, guests can get face time with a little star in a pre-event party.
“We are very grateful for their support in kind – it was an offer friendly and no doubt reflects his own inner personality and willingness to help battle the head and neck cancer,” said Dr. Saul Frenkiel, co-chair of the annual head and neck cancer fundraiser, held by the Department of Otolaryngology at McGill University.
The head and neck cancer are those affecting the thyroid, mouth, throat, tongue, larynx and nasal passages.
In an interview with David Letterman last year, Douglas said doctors had repeatedly checked him after suffering a persistent sore throat. It was not until Montreal hospital had evidence that the throat cancer was diagnosed.
McGill a letter to donors interested in raising funds said Douglas had chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and doctors “have great optimism for successful recovery.”
The money raised at the event Douglas will go to help develop new treatments and surgical procedures. The event last year and brought about $ 1.5 million,
“We’re hoping that the night is developed to be a great year (in the case … there is a rumor,” Frenkiel said.
