Jets Reporter

September 13, 2010 by staff

Jets Reporter, Sunday was a day of autumn, sad, perfectly in keeping with the occasion of the first complete list of NFL games. But there was a dull feeling of misery, as he watched what seemed like a lifetime of football, because the Jets would not be playing until Monday night. Would be in the exhibition game that everyone looks regardless of where he or she lives or which team to root. 1 pm Sunday’s clashes with local Giants intrigue providing smooth, then I was watching the 4 pm by quarterback Aaron Rodgers my fantasy team. Finally, the Redskins and the Cowboys was watching at 8 pm if only because the game was televised nationally.

I thought it was a rainy day for the Jets – it could be a small victory in itself – until I remembered what it means to be a Jets fan, always waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop. Towards the end of the Cowboys, Redskins game, the local had its teaser few seconds during a commercial break, and David Ushery hastily said the Jets are facing charges of harassment of a journalist. Ushery tease was so short that I could hardly tell whether he had heard correctly. But when disbelief disappeared Ushery repeated what I said and my concerns about these Jets were absolutely furious.

The persistent threat to this team the Jets, with all its promise; it could be his own worst enemy. And the report on Sunday, followed on Monday with the news that the NFL is investigating the matter, he served as a reminder that his window of opportunity may not be particularly great, because teams like this can quickly self-destruct. This is the talent of a Jets team as we have seen in a long time. They were very good last year, overachieved a bit in the playoffs, was to an aspiration of the Super Bowl, and the replacement this offseason in an effort to seal the deal. There is little to not like about your direction, with Woody Johnson to show his rash Jets are not second fiddle to the Giants, and Rex Ryan will GW Bush on us – that is, trying to win one for him and his Dad often underestimated.

But the novelty of impudence and intimidation can quickly yield to the lame and banality, if the computer fails to comply with the praise that has been so fast lot about her. Its strengths last season were also its Achilles heel, and that may well make use again in 2010. Mark Sanchez was so ccky rookie who somehow played brilliantly in the playoffs after looking positively lost for long periods of the regular season. By contrast, the mammoth Kris Jenkins was lost to injury at about the midpoint of the season, at least in part because of his weight and conditioning was unchecked under the laissez-faire Ryan.

They are, in some respects, the 2010 version of Raiders of age or at least the Ravens 10 years ago, ie have more than a few shady characters and style to see substance. They are the proverbial bad, much as the 1986 Mets were a good team that does not care who says they are a good team. And only increased as the identity of the offseason, improving the list by virtue of the acquisition of top players who otherwise would not be available if not for his reputation for bad taste.

In particular, wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been involved and will be the Jets’ No. 1 option for the capture step – after serving a four-game suspension for violating league policy on substance abuse. It is an elite player, a former Super Bowl MVP of the Jets got a low price (only a fifth-round draft pick in 2011) because of his fall from grace with the Steelers.

“We understood that was part of it, but we wanted to, even with that, it was worth it,” said general manager Mike Tannenbaum on April 12. “Obviously, a guy with his production and 26 years of age, he would not have been possible if these indiscretions did not happen, and of course the suspension. But, having said this, just felt like the risk and the price was reasonable for us.

On the other side of the ball, the Jets added another talented player to their defensive secondary by Antonio Cromartie. Although his work has not quite matched its promise as a 10-interception season in 2007 with the Chargers, the veteran of five years has invested enormous. But he has become the target of more than a couple of jokes after embarrassingly Rummaging in an attempt to appoint eight children (whom he had six women) in the ubiquitous Strokes “Hard”. More seriously, it has been in and out of various courts of the times for paternity suits, and the Jets gave him a salary advance and 500,000 in its acquisition to help make child support payments.

That these players, they bring problems of a very real, are now the Jets are largely a function of the philosophy of Ryan as coach of a player called. Their kids are left to long for him when they run out and produce on the field, so it is logical that the Jets would be willing to confront the problems of the other teams. The Jets Ryan under the larger than life is the antithesis of the Jets under the meticulous Eric Mangini, when they were boring and buttoned, and frankly, not very well trained.

At the request of Johnson, the Jets have been shameless self-promoters from the day Ryan took over as head coach; it takes the anger of most other teams in the league and its fans. The run of the game in the AFC Championship last season was spectacularly exciting, but a little too much of an achievement in light of the regular season strangely inconsistent. The difference now is that they are a better team, and expectations are higher. They are also a lot emboldened by a sense of entitlement, and I can only hope that the allegation of harassment is not true.
