Jets Legend Rips Team’s Tim Tebow Deal

Jets Legend Rips Team’s Tim Tebow Deal, New York Jets legend Joe Namath is ripping his old club for trading for Tim Tebow from the Denver Broncos.

“I think it stinks,” says the Pro Football Hall of Famer in a telephone interview.

The Jets’ embrace of Tebow, their excitement over him running a Wildcat offense, and their previous dalliance with Peyton Manning before he signed with Denver, can’t help but undermine incumbent starter QB Mark Sanchez, said Namath Thursday.

If he were in Sanchez’s ‘place, he would not be happy about being pulled from the field at critical moments for Tebow this season.

“That’s not a pat on the back. That’s a slap in the face…If I were there, I’d be pissed off about it. But still go to work and try to make things work. But not be happy about it.”

Sanchez must be confused about whether he’ll remain the starter with one of the most popular athletes in the U.S. breathing down his neck. As New York sports radio personality Mike Francesa noted on WFAN Wednesday, Tebow is a “leading man” in every way: in leadership skills, in the media coverage he gets and the attention he draws from marketers on Madison Avenue.
