Jerry Tarkanian Heart Attack, Doctors at a Las Vegas hospital decided to keep storied former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian overnight Wednesday for observation after a mild heart attack despite originally planning to release him, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Tarkanian’s status had not changed despite the change in plans. Mountainview Hospital spokeswoman Amanda Powell said he is still doing “very well.”

The 81-year-old former Spurs coach was having trouble with his oxygen levels and was being tested for pneumonia or other conditions, son Danny Tarkanian said.

“At his age, pneumonia could be a pretty serious thing,” said Danny Tarkanian, who added the heart attack was mild. He said his father feels all right but was scared when the attack happened.
