Jerry Mathers, Barbara Billingsly, who became famous playing the mother of all American Beaver (played by Jerry Mathers) and Wally (Tony Dow), between 1957 and 1963, died Saturday at age 94. Tony Dow lamented the “America’s favorite mother has now disappeared” in a statement Saturday. Dow said: “I feel very fortunate to have been his” son “for 11 years. We had wonderful friends and I will miss.” Spokesman for the family said Judy Twersky Billingsly, who suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, died at his home in Santa Monica on Saturday.
Billingsly Supermom become one of America first, even though a fiction, because of its typical picture of June Cleaver, the mother of two teenage boys on the television series “Leave Beaver.” Glamorous June Cleaver wore pearls and high heels at home, but was always there to support her husband and help her mischievous boys emerge from their recent misadventures.
An alligator in the basement and horse in the garage were among the major and minor jams boys found themselves in Cleaver. June Cleaver recurring comment that “Ward, I am worried about the Beaver” has become a frequent foreshadowing of future mishaps, and an often-repeated phrase that found its way into American pop culture lexicon.
The two real-life son of Barbara Billingsly said she was very much like the character June Cleaver, she embodied the “Leave it to Beaver.” Glenn Billingsly said: “It was just as food, classy, and beautiful as” June Cleaver and we had the chance to share his world. “
