Jamie Hector:I haven’t heard an awful lot about “Night Catches Us,” but researching it for this post has landed it squarely in the center of my radar. Writer/director Tanya Hamilton will bring this, her first feature, to Sundance next week. The movie stars Kerry Washington, Anthony Mackie, Jamie Hector and Wendell Pierce, who played Bunk on “The Wire.” The movie will also feature a soundtrack from Philadelphia-based hip-hop outfit (and Jimmy Fallon house band) The Roots. Do you really need to know anymore?
Here’s the synopsis, as detailed on the movie’s website: Marcus (Anthony Mackie, “The Hurt Locker,” “Brother to Brother”) returns to the Philadelphia neighborhood where he came of age during the Black Power movement, protecting a dangerous secret in a struggle against the revolution he once embraced and rediscovering a forbidden love (Kerry Washington, “Ray,” “Lift”). Sounds like a winner to me. Can’t wait. For now, enjoy this exclusive still…
