Jackie Robinson Day, Jackie Robinson proved today that he plays well in any season. Baseball is the conclusion of the 64 Th anniversary of the day Robinson integrated Major League Baseball, with its main initiative of a video portal featuring the finest tributes to Robinson short of players and league personnel.
There are events, tributes and ceremonies planned from coast to coast, along with other players Mariano Rivera put Robinson’s No. 42.
And perhaps the final approval to its enduring legacy, Robinson has been a trend on Twitter for most of today (which, we’re guessing it was one of the long-term effects of Branch Rickey signed Robinson imagined when).
A sample of virtual tributes:
Jimmy Rollins: If u is a baseball player or not, April 15th is a day all Americans should take a moment to thank God for the creation of Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey. Without the two of them, baseball as we know it today may not have been. ”
Of the Dodgers: “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” – Jackie Robinson.
An oldie but goodie of Willie Mays: “Every time I look in my pocket, I see Jackie Robinson.”
And the Braves: “I’m not worried about like or dislike me. All I ask is that I respect as a human being.” – Jackie Robinson.
