Jack Roberts Dies, Sad news from the world of extreme sports. Nationally famous ice climber Jack Roberts died after falling 60 feet in a climb, according to the Huffington Post.

The pro climber, author and guide was leading a climb up the Bridal Veil Falls near Telluride, Colo., when he plummeted. The 58-year old Roberts survived the fall with a broken hip and possible internal injuries — but went into cardiac arrest during the rescue, according to Rescuers spend 40 minutes trying to resuscitate him.

Ice climbing involves using picks and ropes to ascend frozen waterfalls and glaciers. A 40-year vetern of the sport, Roberts was one of the country’s most famous ice climbers.

The Bridal Veil Falls are regarded as one of the toughest ice climbs in the U.S. Roberts called the Falls “special” in a 2009 video posted to YouTube.
