IPL: Kings XI Punjab
May 16, 2011 by staff
IPL: Kings XI Punjab, Kings XI Punjab has an outside chance of making the India Premier League (IPL) play-offs if they win their two remaining games to force a four-way battle for Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders for three places available after Bangalore Royal Challengers have passed. This, if some of the remaining matches are the reverse.
It is the responsibility of the Kings XI Punjab, which is 12 points in 12 games, to evict one of three teams – Super Reyes (16), Mumbai Indians (16) and Kolkata Knight Riders (14) – for a place in the play-offs.
With two games left against the formidable Royal Challengers and Deccan Chargers, Kings XI Punjab have to win in a situation that has taken her to 16 and also hope that Knight Riders lost their other two games against the braves and Pune Mumbai.
In total, the Kings XI has a mathematical chance and captain Adam Gilchrist said he could still sneak in. But the Australian is aware of the reality, because even if they win against Deccan Chargers would be a difficult task against leaders of Royal Challengers. Kings XI must also ensure that win by a wide margin, as they have a negative run rate of -0.183.
Knight Riders have been in tremendous form this season. Is expected to beat Warriors in Pune, but could be difficult for them against the Mumbai Indians. Even if they win one of their last two games, Knight Riders finished with 16 points, enough to carry out their first appearance in the second round.
Mumbai Indians are sitting comfortably in 16 points and will face Knight Riders and Tuskers Kochi in their last two games. Although the teams need a minimum of 16 points to enter the next stage, the Mumbai Indians can not breathe easy, unless you run a minimum of two points from their remaining two games.
The defending champions Super Reyes are also on 16 points and will be up against Royal Challengers Tuskers Kochi and in his last two games. Super Reyes does not want to leave until their last meeting and want to book their place by beating the Warriors in Pune.
