IPhone Combusts On Flight, An Apple iPhone 4 spontaneously combusted on board a flight in Australia. The smartphone handset started glowing red and emitted a “significant amount” of dense smoke after the plane landed in Sydney.

Flight attendants had to extinguish the fire, which occurred on board a Regional Express flight from Lismore on Friday, the airline reported.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority have now launched an investigation into the incident, which is the second reported case of its kind.

It was reported in the Sydney Morning Herald that an iPhone 3GS similarly overheated in a dangerous manner on a Regional Express flight on November 3.
