iPhone:Apple is focusing more on the players with a new social gaming network for the iPhone and iPod Touch attracts some of the signs of the gaming console counterparts, the company unveiled Thursday during a media event at its Cupertino headquarters CA.
Apple SVP of iPhone software Scott Forstall said that the company will launch later this year, “Game Center, a social network that includes automated matching games, achievements, leaderboards and other features.
“Many developers have come to us and said there is a lot of different social networks out there,” Forstall said at the event attended by Gamasutra. “When you want a social network, the most important thing is that our friends are in it [and is] Built … everyone can unite and be in the same social network.”
Game Center Forstall said is about adding value to its mobile products, not the creation of a new business model. “No money or anything to gain competitive advantage derived from having your own social gaming network,” he said.
Forstall said: “One of our goals with [Game Center] is to help spread viral … You can see your friends, your friends can challenge a game that does not have and can be downloaded as] game [… And we added gifts in this operating system so you can give someone you love. ”
As for the inclusion of achievements, a great attraction to potential players, said “we are still seeing the different options” on how to handle the function.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs was on hand as well, and Game Center said not necessarily supplant other independently to create social platforms as OpenFeint.
Forstall did not reveal an exact release date for Game Center, said only that there will be a “preview” in OS4 will be available this summer on the iPhone and iPod Touch. OS4 IPAD come this fall, while the OS4 SDK is out today.
The Executive Game Center presented in the context of games iPhone and iPod Touch, but with OS4 hit iPod, iPod Touch and IPAD later this year, Game Center is destined to go on all devices. Forstall said that more than 50,000 game titles and entertainment on the App Store today.
