International Museum Day

International Museum DayInternational Museum Day, The Union Ministry of Culture today celebrated International Museum Day. Several functions were organised at government of India Museums all over the country to mark the occasion. Free entry to public was given in Allahabad Museum, Allahabad, Chennai Museum, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Indian Museum, Kolkata, National Council of Science Museums, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, National Museum, New Delhi, Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad, Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata, Museums at Sarnath, Nalanda, Konark, Nagarjuna Konda and 40 other site museums of Archaeological Survey of India. Lectures, seminars, on the spot painting competitions, special film shows were organised at several places as part of celebrations.

National Museum, New Delhi organised a public lecture on BUDDHIST ART AND ITS IMPACT ON CENTRAL ASIA. Tagore National Fellow Dr. Chhaya Bhattacharya-Heasner delivered the address. The Museum also organised a North East Panorama showcasing Photographs, Documentary Films, Artefacts, Attire, Jewellery, Live Handicrafts. The administrator of the National Museum Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose launched DVDs of the Documentary Film THE KHASIS OF MEGHALAYA. A gallery talk by the Museum curator ion INDIAN COINS THROUGH THE AGES was also organised. Special film shows on INDIAN ART AND CULTURE were organised in the museum auditorium.

The Delhi chapter of Archaeological Survey of India celebrated International Museum Day with the theme “Museum and Memory” at the Children’s Museum, Siri Fort. The celebrations included an on the spot painting competition of objects and artefacts on display in the museum for school children.
