Huge Asteroid Headed This Way

November 3, 2011 by staff

Huge Asteroid Headed This Way, A huge asteroid just “barely” miss Earth when flying next week. According to NASA, on 8 November, 2005 YU55 asteroid will come within 201 700 km of the Earth. This may sound a lot but in reality it is only 0.85 the distance from Earth to the Moon.

It is not uncommon for asteroids that pass so close, but the size of this asteroid is what makes it so remarkable.

The asteroid 2005 YU55 is 1,300 feet wide. That’s the size of an aircraft carrier.

Scientists plan to study because they believe that asteroids of this type can have life on Earth possible because they deliver organic, carbon-based materials.

The last time an asteroid of this size to pass near the Earth was 1976. According to the predictions of NASA, the next will not occur until 2028.

I find it funny that down at the end of the article the next one isnt coming until 2028. Until they next one they had no idea about turns the corner, and then its the next big thing. Our space agency is losing legitimacy with not knowing where a freaking old satellite will even land, they presume to say when the next asteroid will come by. They remind of the so called doomsday prophets constantly saying a definitive statement like the next one wont be till 2028. Who had actually heard about this one until it was right on top of us?

James you said exactly what I was thinking reading the story. Also How is it that a comet hits the sun Last month and nobody knew anything about it. Comet Elenin discovered about 1 year ago by a russian amature scientist, This thing coming in is a little baby and if to believe nasa that 2028 is the next one. .We just want a little truth once in a while. The glow of some of these recent comets was about 100,000 mi tail. For what ever reason the masses are being led to believe something that is not true. This year my hobby with my telescope isin’t any fun after all the misleading and out right lies from our government and its agencies.
