How The Grinch Stole Christmas

November 6, 2011 by staff

How The Grinch Stole Christmas, The stories of Theodor Geisel, known to children and parents the world over as Dr. Seuss, have had an uneven transition from the page to the big screen. 2003’s The Cat in the Hat, for instance, starring Mike Myers, was wildly panned.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas had a better reception, but still pales next to the beloved 1966 TV special, with narration by Boris Karloff. Horton Hears a Who (2008) managed quite well with Jim Carrey, who had also played the Grinch, although few could tell under all that makeup.

March 2, 2012, would have been Seuss 108th birthday. As a present Universal Pictures is releasing a cinematic animated version of The Lorax, based on Seuss’s 1971 environmental fable. The original follows a child’s trip “to the far end of town where the Grickle-grass grows,” where a mysterious, unseen being called the Once-ler tells how an earthly paradise was stripped of its Truffula trees.
