How Did Oprah S Sister Die, Patricia is the biological daughter of Winfrey’s mother, Vernita Lee. According to Oprah, Lee gave the baby up for adoption in 1963 because she could not afford to take care of her. At the time, Oprah was 9 years old and living in Tennessee with her father, so she did not even know that her mother had been pregnant.

But while the meeting on the air between Oprah and Patricia was a joyous occasion, several other family issues Winfrey came to light.

Oprah describes her family tree, including two brothers and sisters who died that mother had also given birth to. She also reminded viewers that she herself had given birth to a baby at the age of 14 years, but the baby died.

Oprah’s half-sister, Pat, died in 2003. Winfrey told viewers she had put her sister through detox twice, but unfortunately she could not overcome her demons. Pat girls were in the audience, telling happier times and marvel at the uncanny resemblance between their mother died and her new half-sister, Patricia. Winfrey said that Patricia was “what Pat was on her best day.”

Oprah also made mention of her half-brother, deceased brother, Jeffrey. It is widely accepted that Jeffrey died of AIDS in December 1988, although Winfrey did not specify the cause of her death.

Oprah told viewers of the shame she felt when she fell pregnant at 14 and gave birth to a baby boy prematurely. The baby died shortly after birth. Oprah also revealed that it was her sister, now deceased, Pat, who went to the tabloids and sold the story of her teenage pregnancy secret. According to the New York Post in 1990, Pat has been paid and 19,000 by the National Enquirer for details about the teen pregnancy Oprah Winfrey.
