Hot Smartphones Make Their Debuts, Thin is in at the 2012 Mobile World Congress, with a variety of handset manufacturers cramming features like 3D cameras, advanced touch-screen capability and high-definition video playback into ever more slender packaging. Huawei is looking to make a big splash with its quad-core Ascend D Quad, which the company claims is the world’s fastest smartphone.

In the meantime, LG keeps the 3D technology trend alive with the Optimus 3D Max, which includes an HD Converter to offer HD quality on a television connected through Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL), when transforming Open GL-based 2D games and applications to 3D and viewing Google Earth.

LG’s Optimus 4X HD includes 16GB of internal memory and runs on the latest version of Google’s Android 4.0, or Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition, the LG device boasts an 8-megapixel backside illumination (BSI) sensor camera with LED flash and advanced multimedia features.

Users can convert Google Earth, Google Maps and other road views into 3D using the enhanced 3D Converter.

LG focused on trimming details on the design of the Optimus 3D Max by keeping only the essentials and eliminating everything else.

The Optimus 4X HD combines Nvidia’s latest 1.5GHz Tegra 3 CPU with a True HD in-plane switching (IPS) display designed for high-level multimedia performance.

LG Optimus 4X HD

The Optimus 4X HD also includes 16GB of internal memory and runs on the latest version of Android—Ice Cream Sandwich.

Samsung Galaxy Note

A cross between a tablet and a smartphone, the Note sports a huge 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED (active-matrix organic LED) display and the S Pen for taking notes or drawing.


The ZTE Era is a high-end Android 4.0 smartphone powered by the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip and featuring a powerful 1.3GHz quad-core processor.


ZTE’s flagship smartphone, the Era, has a 4.3-in. screen, 8GB of memory expandable with a MicroSD card, HD voice and Dolby sound capability.

Huawei Ascend D Quad

Huawei claims the Ascend D Quad, with its quad-core 1.2GHz/1.5GHz processor, is the fastest smartphone available.

Huawei Ascend D1

The D1 sports a dual-core 1.5GHz processor instead of its big brother’s quad core chip, and could land in T-Mobile’s offerings when it debuts in April.

Huawei Ascend P1 lte

This Ascend model has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, an 8- megapixel camera and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera along with an Android 4.0, or Ice Cream Sandwich, overlay.
