Hillsborough County Property Appraiser

Hillsborough County Property Appraiser, Hillsborough County officials from the school could look like Homestead exemptions to help verify addresses for student registration.

School board members and administrators will consider the idea of a workshop today at 1:30 pm at the Raymond O. Shelton Administrative Center in Tampa.

“I heard people say too much over the years, I will use the address of my grandmother,” entering a school,”said board member Candy Olson, who is campaigning for change. It happens less often, she said, because the district has tightened its rules, but there are always students get into high schools whose enrollment is stretched beyond capacity.

In an era of class size restrictions, which limits the number of students may be in some base classes is a priority to ensure that students attend school that matches their address, Olson said.

Students must have proof of residency when registering. In the past, the district agreed to current bills for electricity or water, and even lease purchase agreements for houses. If the board approves the amendment next spring forms include a tax receipt showing that verifies the exemption farm. The exemption is granted for a primary residence only.

“It does not work for all schools,”said Olson, noting some parts of the county are not many owners claiming the exemption as the others.” If we discover, gee, only three people are lying, we do not do it again.”Average, said Steve Ayers district, 71 percent of households in Hillsborough request this exemption, which allows 50,000 and to deduct from the taxable value of a principal residence.

The change would be the area with an effective way to verify the address of a student, Ayers said.

The board will review the implementation of audits for individual schools, in which a bookkeeper can check the homes of each student.

Clerks could access the website of the county property appraiser; check the school choice applications, affidavits and examination, including those where students live with caregivers legal.

The directors believe that this audit to a typical high school with about 2,000 students would take the clerk about six weeks and cost about $ 5,520.

Attend another school that a student is assigned requires an application under the program of the school district election.
