Heidi Jones, The strange case of former WABC WeatherCaster Heidi Jones, who has been accused of lying to police about an attempted sexual assault, took an unusual turn last week when prosecutors moved to an indictment in the case.
According to the Daily News, the case was brought before a grand jury returned an indictment, something rarely done by lower-level crimes.
Attorney Jones said he was surprised FishbowlNY that such aggressive measures have been taken in the case and says he is trying to get the charges dismissed. “I know with certainty what the decision to charge Heidi Jones means: It means that there seems to be a double standard for prosecution of crimes in the County of New York,” said Jones’s lawyer, Paul Callan. “The double standard is a shame unconstitutional. I will move to dismiss the charges immediately.”
Jones, who admitted in December that he lied repeatedly to police about narrowly escaping a mugger in Central Park, is set to be arraigned on the indictment on June 29.
