Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Kea’au A man who died in a traffic accident near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park by early Sunday morning has been identified. According to officials, 20-year-old Bryson Areola was driving on Highway 11 near 35 milespot around 1:30 am when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the lava field.
The passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Julien Quiocho Hilo, was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition with head and spinal injuries. Authorities believe speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. Anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park at (808) 985-6001.
One man was killed and another injured after a car crash in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in the early morning on Sunday.
At 1:29 a.m., the car was discovered about 15 to 20 feet from Highway 11 on the rocks near the 36-mile marker, according to officials of the Big Island of Fire.
Rescuers found two men, one of whom was declared dead on arrival at hospital. The other man had multiple injuries.
